Professor Mel Waters

Professor Mel Waters, Mietta Song Committee Artistic Committee Chair Emeritus Professor Mel Waters is one of Australia's foremost musicians and educators.

Formerly Director of Music and Principal Organist at Adelaide's St Francis Xavier Cathedral, and more recently Director and Dean of the Melba Conservatorium in Melbourne, he is now Director of Music and Organist at St John's Anglican Church, Toorak.

Mel has been principal organist and harpsichordist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra since 1996, a position that he also held with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for more than a decade.

He has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and at several International Arts Festivals.

Professor Waters has toured extensively as a soloist and conductor in the UK and Europe. More recently, as Managing Director of the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust, he visited several centres of excellence in the USA as a resident specialist in operatic studies.
